On the natural side, your skin contains oil that protects it from drying out and from extreme temperatures, but your LIPS don't, which explains why they bleed so easily.

Because your lips are naturally, you would like to protect them from the suns harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. Products with SPF (sun protection factor) will help protect your lip against UV rays, keeping your lip always smiling.

Protecting your lips from the sun is really easy. Best way to provide protection against sunlight for your lips to apply a lipstick or a tinted lip balm that contains sunscreen. Lip balm not only protects your lips from burning, the moisture will help to avoid chap and dryness. The SPF number tells you how much longer you can stay outside without burning while wearing the sunscreen product as opposed to not wearing any sun protection product, example: An SPF 15 means that this will take your lips 15 times than they would without the sunscreen

Wear lip balm with a minimum SPF 30 for you (higher is better), and SPF 15 for your baby. But most famous lip balm usually only have an SPF with 15-20, it is still not protect your lips from.

TIPS:

    - Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going in the sun and re-apply every 2 -3 hours when swimming or sweating ( Water proof or Sweat proof).
    - No sunscreen can protect your skin from all of the UV rays, but a higher SPF number indicates protection from more rays.
    - Do not go in direct sun light without any sun protection factors. Apply lip moisturizer's which contain sun protecting factor in them.
    - "It's winter! I don't need to protect my lips from the sun!" Snow can reflect about 80 % of sun rays and can result in skin damage and UVA rays are at constant levels all year.

Did you know?

A recent study at the University of Texas revealed that over 94% of study participants were very aware that UV exposure causes skin cancer, but only 6% were aware of the risk factors for lip cancer.

To skin cancer because it has been too much sun and accuse the sun? Despite what we hear, is not entirely true, although we believe that the sun is our enemy and this is why there is so much more skin cancer today. We have had decades of campaigns that pushes us to avoid the sun, staying in the shade to use sunscreen, and usually have little to do with the sun as possible, but the rate of skin cancer is constantly increasing.

For something that gives life on earth from the sun received a huge amount of bad press lately. There was a time when the disease was skin cancer and only a few years ago, why is causing a problem now. One thing that skin cancer is today has been a great blessing and a lot of people who are reaping the benefits. Have you ever noticed how many skin cancer clinics have emerged in recent years?

Above all, the sun is not our enemy, it really is our friend that the life of all living beings including humans would not be without it. Not the sun, which is entirely to blame for the problem of skin cancer than the sun has not changed and the ozone layer that protects us from harmful radiation from the sun is the only problem over the Antarctic, where he lives no. So what has caused cancer of the skin so much?

Cancer can develop anywhere on the body, which had no irritation and excessive sunlight can cause irritation and blemishes appear, there are other factors that cause these errors to increase. What has changed in recent years has our diet and our diet is poor, which contributes to skin cancer including melanoma.

We need the sun all day the sun is an extraordinary healing powers. A few minutes of sun exposure on bare skin on a daily basis, we treat the cancer as the cause. It also helps us to preserve the health of our bones and teeth. Other ways to get the recommended daily dose of vitamin D from foods such as oily fish, and to a lesser extent, egg yolk, and meat, such as the liver. Also, sometimes the milk is supplemented with vitamin D

Although exposure to the sun's rays can be harmful, especially to the skin of a person 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight on our faces, arms and legs every day has amazing healing qualities. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with skin cancer or melanoma, it is important to take the sun on your skin every day. This will help strengthen the immune system and allowing the body to combat and eliminate cancer.

Generally, conventional treatments focus on symptom of the problem of skin cancer, which is a cancer growth. Discover the treatment that focus on the real cause of the problem, which is why the cancer first appeared. To resolve this problem, and the cancer never comes back. Because usually go back to now a days, because none of surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, which prevents it from coming back, because I'm just trying to remove the tumors.

Tanning Beds And Skin Cancer, It Is Worth The Consequences?

Posted by Cancer Care

If you're like most people aged 15-40 is likely to begin the tanning distance is now routine in the middle of winter. Tanning beds and skin cancer are the hot topics frequently discussed among experts and researchers. There are those who do not believe in tanning beds are the direct causes of skin cancer, and there are those who think that they are.

When a lie is a solarium, you may feel you are lying on the beach, and can not imagine the warm sun caresses the skin with its considerable heat. If you're like some adults who are dependent on the sun, you probably have a package all year round and spend the day standing in the bed and read regularly. You probably spend a small fortune on oils and suntan lotion to get the most out of a tan. You pay for this luxury in the long term? Let's look at the facts about skin cancer, and the court.

Some people just do not like some light skin. They are transparent when they have a tan. Tanning beds are the cause of skin cancer? Do they contribute to more than 2,000 deaths from skin cancer every year in the U.S.? The answer is maybe. When we look at the fact that people who tan indoors, as opposed to the remote possibility of more than 70% of skin cancer, has a big enough case against the safety of tanning salons.

So I ask a person visiting a salon every day, is it worth? Sure, you look fantastic, I will not deny it. Tanning really starts cute beachwear are planning to wear. What price would you achieve that tanned skin and bright? It could cost you your youth, your health, and in some cases, their lives. Nothing is more valuable than life, so if you can avoid a deadly disease, why not. I know this is controversial: there is much disagreement on the issue of tan or no tan. Some people say it outright, I do not care if I get cancer, no one lives forever. That's like saying I do not mind if I smoke, look and feel good while I'm doing.

Tanning beds are all the glitz and glamor of when you hear them in Hollywood. Many stars are loyal visitors tanning. The truth is that it still gets in direct contact with many harmful UVB rays. While tanning beds are less UVB sun rays, which are still not protected against skin cancer. They are the UVA rays are emitted in the whole body when you're in the tanning bed. UVA can not burn it out, but they penetrate more deeply into your body, then UVB rays. Cause internal damage. Should take into account these risks when buying a tanning package.

Skin cancer is something we are all aware. The dangers are constantly around us, and we are led to believe that the only way we can possibly have a skin cancer, is whether we expose our skin to the sun without too protection. However port, there are studies that argue that what we eat can also have a drastic effect on our chances of developing the disease. On the other hand, studies indicate that our diet can affect the state. So what should we believe? Then we eat really affects our chances of skin cancer? Or is this just nonsense?

Skin cancer, and our diet

There is also a kind of ongoing research to find the links between our lifestyle and cancer. We all know that our diet affects our skin, but did you know that your diet can also affect skin cancer? the sun's UV levels are apparently a good source of vitamin D for our bodies. While perhaps true, there are people going to the sun without adequate protection, thinking that vitamin D helps to reduce the risk of skin cancer and other cancers, and not harmed, because vitamin D is good for them. However While it is true that the sun helps the body to be more vitamin D production is still well known for giving us skin cancer. This means that we must do our vitamin D from other sources, for example, in our diets. It believe that high-fat diets increase the risk of skin cancer.

The studies were conducted in mice, where scientists have malnourished group of them, exposed to chemicals that promote skin cancer, and found that mice less than undernourished state point compared with another group of mice that have not reduced. So had their calorie intake which proves that somewhere, eat healthy and have a low calorie diet in some way have contributed to promoting protection of the hormone, which has adopted some of the mice develop a skin cancer . However, studies have not fully demonstrated the gland that produces the hormone, so these tests are currently incomplete. There denying that diet plays an important role in our skin condition and is more than likely that in fact, affect our chances of developing skin cancer. So what foods we should eat? Oily fish is good for the skin and fish like salmon can actually help reduce the chances of skin cancer down. This is because omega three fatty acids to help repair DNA damage caused by cancer.

while eating oily fish three times a week was effective in reducing the risk that people burn in the sun until the end of a month, and after three months, the risk of sunburn is even reduced to 33%. However, they can help reduce the risk, there is still no match for the strong levels and sun protection should always be worn.It think that a healthy diet is the best defense against all forms of cancer, and many eat fruits and vegetables is undoubtedly the way forward! Reduce salt and sweet foods is certainly a good idea, because the more calcium there is research that daily.Overall say that diet affects skin cancer, and research suggests it does not work. If you are unsure about your best bet is to simply eat healthier anyway. Eating healthy is good for the skin if you try to prevent skin cancer or not.

Trying to get at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, what should pursue, and even pruning really fatty foods. If you are unsure, you can always consult a doctor or nutritionist and they can give more information.

Posted by Cancer Care on Tuesday, December 21, 2010

The following are the main causes.

-violet rays of the sun 1.Ultra - both associated with cancer of the skin are UVA (ultraviolet A) and UVB (ultraviolet B). UVB rays are short wave and solar power are more likely to cause redness and sunburn. UVA, however, would be permanent damage to the skin as they penetrate deep into the skin. Recent studies show that UVA not only increases UVB's carcinogenic effects, but can also directly cause skin diseases such as melanoma.

2.Family history - Recent studies confirm that the risk of melanoma is more than double among those with a family history of skin cancer. Despite having someone in the family that the story does not necessarily mean you also undoubtedly deserves special attention by the major risk factor.

3.Chemical exposure - some chemicals can cause damage when in contact with skin. Insects, for example, often contain substances such as arsenic, which are dangerous to the skin. They may increase the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer. However, people who work in areas regularly come into contact with chemicals and industrial materials (such as petroleum, arsenic, and coal tar) are more likely to develop certain types of skin cancer.

4.Smoking - although it is known that smoking is related to other cancers such as lung cancer and mouth, the snuff used in cigarettes, etc could be a cause of skin cancer too.

5.Radiation exposure - there are concerns that radiotherapy that some children are made with other cancer treatments can increase the risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancer. In addition, people working in the X-rays, such as medicine, nursing staff and radiological exposed to greater risks.

6.Skin Condition and geography - of some skin disorders may increase the risk of a person's skin cancer. For example, people who have light-skinned people living in tropical or subtropical climates, such as the American Southwest, equatorial Africa, Hawaii and Australia, is generally very high incidence of skin cancer. serious injuries to the skin, if healed in time, could increase the possibility of non-melanoma skin cancer. Similarly, a bad scars or burns.

7.Weak immune system - the immune system is part of the body's defense against bacteria and cancer formation. When the immune system is strong, the antibodies and immune cells are better able to do their work by neutralizing free radicals and get rid of harmful elements from your body. Conversely, a weak immune system open many opportunities that cancer cells can spread quickly and share so that it is difficult to predict.

Posted by Cancer Care on Saturday, December 11, 2010

More and more people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the United States than any other type of cancer. Survival rates are excellent, if space is found and treated at an early stage of development. Early treatment offers the best possible skin cancer cures.Doctors define success in the treatment of cancer based on the fact that the person is alive and without evidence of cancer after five years from the date on which they were found.

cure rate, also known as the five-year survival rate varies from one type of skin cancer, in which a person is diagnosed.Individuals diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, for example, is the highest survival rate. This is because the cancer is so slow and spread more and more rarely on the original site. These people can predict treatment success rate is over 99 percent. In comparison with a history of squamous cell carcinoma can be predicted five-year survival rate is slightly above 95 percent.

Although this cancer is melanoma, and very slow growth, it can spread to lymph nodes and blood, if left untreated early. If a person suffering from a malignant melanoma where the cancer is in the same place , the cure rate is about 88 percent. About eight in ten people detect cancer at this time. If the cancer has already begun to spread to the lymph nodes, survival is only 58 percent. If the cancer has metastasized, or spread to other organs in the body, one in ten are alive after five years diagnosis.Doctors use different treatments to cure people with skin cancer. Some cancers are easier to cure than others. Basal cell tumors, for example, are generally so small that the person is considered cured after the tumor is removed. squamous cell cancer, however, require additional treatment, especially if the cancer has spread. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the most common forms of treatment.

Because melanoma is so difficult to cure, doctors often use a combination of drugs, radiotherapy, chemotherapy or other procedures are in clinical trials to try to cure this cancer. Some of these experimental treatments include photodynamic therapy and skin cancer early is very important ecological therapies.Diagnosing. cure skin cancer is more likely when the cancer is found early. 3 Factors Leading Skin Cancer Risk

Posted by Cancer Care on Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Approximately 60,000 people contract skin cancer each year. It begins when your skin cells begin to grow so fast and so control. This then leads to a malignant (cancerous) forms on your skin. While sun exposure is the main risk factor for this type of cancer, there are others too. In this article I will discuss three main risk factors for skin cancer.

1) exposure to ultraviolet (UV): As I mentioned above is the major risk factor for this type of cancer. The reason is that UV rays damage DNA in your skin cells to increase the chances of cell division goes awry and cancer formation. Sunlight contains UV rays, thus prolonged exposure to sunlight through a lot of time outdoors can increase your risk. Sunbeds and tanning beds also emit high doses of UV rays and make you more prone to developing this condition.

2) clear skin: People with fair skin have a higher probability of skin cancer because their skin has less protection against UV rays. Those with very pale skin that turns red in the sun or freckles are most at risk, especially if they are heavily exposed to UV radiation soon. In contrast, dark-skinned people are much less likely to develop this condition because their skin pigment melanin, which provides protection against UV rays.

3) Genetic factors: There are several genetic factors that may increase the likelihood of developing this cancer. First of all, there are two or more relatives who developed skin cancer is believed to contribute to the risk. Secondly, with blond or red hair makes you more likely to develop this disease. Thirdly, people with blue eyes is believed to be at greater risk than other eye colors. In addition, people are a lot of freckles or moles on the skin is considered the best opportunity to develop this cancer.

Unlike other cancers, you have full control over most of the risk factors for skin cancer. Types and Treatment for skin cancer

Posted by Cancer Care on Friday, November 19, 2010

There is a direct link between skin cancer and sun exposure. It is usually found on areas of the body that are frequently exposed to sunlight. However, it can also develop in areas that are rarely exposed. For that reason, the skin all over your body should be examined regularly. There are three types of skin cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma.Skin cancer can develop on the face, lips, ears, scalp, hands, palms, under your fingernails, between your toes, and anywhere on your body where you have skin. It can strike people of all skin tones and can develop slowly over time or appear suddenly. The most common type of is known as basal cell carcinoma. This is also the most easy to treat. It typically appears as a waxy bump on your skin or as a flat lesion that resembles a scar.Squamous cell carcinoma has more of a tendency to spread but is still easy to treat if it is caught early. This type of skin cancer appears as a firm red bump on your skin or as a flat lesion with a scaly surface.Melanoma can develop on your skin or cause an existing mole to become cancerous. Melanoma accounts for the most cancer related deaths. It appears as a brown spot on your skin that has an irregular color and jagged borders. Melanoma can also cause your mole to change shape or color; it may cause your mole to bleed. Melanoma lesions can also appear on mucous membranes inside your mouth and nose. You may have a higher risk of developing melanoma if you have fair skin, eyes and hair. Your risk is also higher if you sunburn or freckle easily. If you had multiple sunburns as a child or teen then your risk of developing skin cancer as an adult is greater. People who spend a lot of time in the sun working or tanning increase their risks if they do not wear protective clothing or use sun screen properly.Treatment for cancer is simple and effective if the cancer is caught early. The cancer is removed in a doctor's office under local anesthesia. The cancer is removed along with healthy tissue that surrounds it so no stray cancer cells are left behind. Surgery may be performed with a laser that directs a targeted beam of energy onto the cancer so it is destroyed. Laser surgery works well on surface cancers and on pre-cancerous growths.Mohs surgery is another type of treatment. This requires the surgeon to remove skin a layer at a time. Each layer is examined for cancer cells. In this manner the cancer cells can be removed without taking away too much healthy tissue. Some types of cancer can be killed by freezing them with liquid nitrogen. The cancer falls off as it thaws. Radiation and chemotherapy are also used in the treatment of skin cancer. Chemotherapy can be taken orally or applied directly to the skin cancer in the form of a cream or lotion.Skin cancer can be treated much easier while in the early stages. Therefore, frequent self-examinations and regular full body exams by your doctor are very important. You can also take steps to prevent skin cancer by being wise about sun exposure. Wear sunscreen even in the winter and avoid the sun during the peak hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Surgery is the oldest existing form of treatment for skin cancer. The treatment eliminates the tumor as well as certain adjacent healthy tissues. This stops the cancer from spreading further. Some doctors also use skin peel such as the TCA skin peel that has been quite effective in treating skin cancer. There are different types of surgeries used to treat skin cancer such as cryosurgery, electro-desiccation and curettage, grafting, laser therapy, Mohs micrographic surgery, simple excision. Cryosurgery is used to freeze the tumor. This helps in exterminating cancer cells. Electro-desiccation and curettage burns the lesion and eliminates it with a sharp instrument. Grafting is another type of surgery where a skin graft is used to replace damaged skin while removing the cancer. The Mohs micrographic surgery is helpful in removing the cancer. A microscope is used to inspect the cancerous area in order to ensure that none of the cancer cells are present. 3 Effective Skin Cancer Treatments

Posted by Cancer Care on Friday, November 12, 2010

Skin cancer is contracted by approximately 60,000 people in the UK each year. It is normally caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light which makes the process of cell division in your skin malfunction. As a result your skin cells start to multiply in a rapid, out of control way leading to the formation of a cancerous tumour which usually appears as a blemish on your skin. Fortunately, most of these cancers are very treatable if caught in the early stages. In this article I am going to be discussing three of the possible skin cancer treatments that are available to you.
1. SURGERY:This is the most common treatment for this type of cancer. Smaller tumours can normally be removed under local anaesthetic. However, larger tumours may require a skin graft which involves the cancerous skin being removed and then replaced with a layer of healthy skin taken from another part of the body. If the cancer has spread beyond the skin and to the lymph nodes (glands that help the body get rid of unwanted bacteria) they may also have to be removed through surgery. This type of treatment has few side effects but may result in some permanent scarring of the skin depending upon the size and position of the tumour.
2.RADIOTHERAPY:This type of treatment involves using high energy radiation beams to shrink or kill any cancerous cells. It is normally used as an alternative to surgery as it can treat the skin cancer without any scarring. Radiotherapy may also be used following surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells and reduce the chances of the cancer returning.
3.CRYOTHERAPY:This type of treatment involves freezing the cancerous cells using liquid nitrogen. It is most effective for early stage skin cancers and may not be possible with more advanced cancers. If this treatment is used the affected skin will scab over and after about a month this scab will fall off. Although skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK it is highly treatable with the success rates being particularly high if it is discovered in the early stages. Skin cancer is a very serious, life threatening condition and you should discuss any concerns, treatments or lifestyle changes fully with your doctor.

Preventing and Controlling Skin Cancer

Posted by Cancer Care on Monday, November 8, 2010

Cancer is becoming more and more prevalent around the world and skin cancer is the most common form. There are two types of skin cancer that are seen the most often - squamous cell and basal cell - and both of them have a high rate of success in curing. There is a third type of skin cancer - melanoma - and it is the most dangerous of all, especially to the younger generations. Why? Because 65 to 90 percent of all melanomas are caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. In 2004 alone.which is the most current statistics available - 50,039 people in the United States alone were diagnosed with some form of melanoma skin cancer. Medical organizations and the government do not track incidences for basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer so the number of people in the United States that were diagnosed with a form of skin cancer is probably higher.Prevention and control for skin cancer is not just determined by what you do to protect yourself. Some people are more prone to the development of skin cancer than others. Risk factors can include, but are not limited to:
1. Skin coloring that is light in natures
2. Family history of skin cancer
3. Personal history of skin cancer
4. Exposure to the sun through playing or through the person's job
5. History of sunburns during childhood
6. Skin that burns, reddens easily, freckles, or hurts when exposed to sunlight
7. People with blue or green eyes
8. People with blonde or red hair
9. People who have a specific type of mole in large quantities over their body.
If you find that you fall into any of these risk factors then prevention and control for skin cancer should become a way of life for you. Prevention and control for skin cancer is actually very easy and just requires getting used to using sun-protective practices on a daily basis. It is very easy and here are a few things that medical professionals and governmental organizations recommend for safe outdoor protection from UV rays:As our ozone layer is thinning, more UVA and UVB rays get through making prevention and control for skin cancer even more important.
  1. Seek a shady spot or go indoors between the hours of 10am and 4pm on a sunny day. This is when the UV rays from the sun hit the Earth the hardest and can do the most damage to your skin. As our ozone layer is thinning, more UVA and UVB rays get through making prevention and control for skin cancer even more important.
  2. If you need to be outside during those hours, cover up any exposed skin with clothing. Clothing provides a barrier between your skin and the rays. Wearing white also helps as white reflects sunlight and heat.
  3. Wear a hat with a wide brim to protect you face, head, ears, and neck from the sunlight. A baseball cap will leave areas exposed.
  4. Get a pair of sunglasses that wrap around your eyes as much as possible and blocks out UVA and UVB rays. Look for a pair that blocks these rays close to 100%.
  5. Wear sunscreen that is rated SPF 15 or higher and also blocks UVA and UVB rays. Even if you are just running out to the store, rubbing some sun block on your face, neck, arms and hands will go a long way to protecting you from harmful radiation.
When you use a combination of all these methods as prevention and control for skin cancer, you are giving yourself a better chance of not being stricken with it. If you are serious about the prevention and control for skin cancer for yourself, stay away from the tanning beds. Everyone claims they are safer, but it still takes UV rays to give your body that golden look. Even if those UV rays are manmade, they can still cause skin cancer.

What Is Basal Cell Carcinoma Skin Cancer?

Posted by Cancer Care on Friday, November 5, 2010

A basal cell carcinoma skin cancer is the result of sun damage to the skin. The cancer tends to enlarge in a slow and steady pattern. Sometimes, the skin works towards healing once the biopsy is done as it starts growing over the cancer. Now, this does not indicate that the cancer is gone. It just means that the cancer is covered with a layer of skin. In case, the cancer is not eliminated completely, it can get deep in to the skin and results in greater harm.Basal cell carcinoma skin cancer is the most common type of cancer existing in the world. This cancer can be quite destructive and even disfiguring. It consists of the risk of developing serious skin problems.People with family history of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer are more vulnerable to developing this disease. The disease is not life threatening. However, if left untreated, the disease can disfigure the skin, results in bleeding and even result in local destruction in areas such as eye, ear, nose and lip. There are several types of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer as mentioned below:
a) Nodular
This appears as flesh colored papule with telangiectasis. In case, it becomes ulcerates, it
results in 'rodent ulcer'. It is an ulcerating nodule with a pearly border.
b) Cystic
This is a rare type of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer and very difficult to distinguish from the nodular type. It has a cavity in the centre with fluid.
c) Pigmented
This is another variant of the nodular type of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer. This should not confuse with melanoma.
d) Sclerosing
It is a scar like lesion.
e) Superficial
This type of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer appears as a red scaling patch.
Basal cell carcinoma skin cancer may look different from normal skin. It may also appear as skin bump or a growth that looks pearly, waxy, white, light pink, flesh colored, brown or even flat.
Here are some symptoms of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer:
1. A skin sore that may bleed easily
2. A sore that does not heal properly
3. Sore with crusting or oozing spots
4. Sore just like a scar without an injured area.
5. Irregular blood vessels around the spot

What Are The Causes And Effects Of Skin Cancer

Posted by Cancer Care on Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Like all cancers, skin cancer is caused when the cells are exposed to some external environmental condition. An oncogene promotes tumor growth. In many cases of cancer it is not always clear what the environmental condition or conditions may be. In the case of skin cancer, the environmental condition is thought to be exposure to ultraviolet radiation. And the most common source of ultraviolet radiation that most people are exposed to is sunlight. However, some people can be exposed to sunlight more than others and never appear to develop skin cancers. It seems that some people are more sensitive to the ultraviolet radiation than others (although too much exposure to the sun will result in skin cancer for most people eventually). Melanin is the body's natural defense against the sun. It turns the skin brown as a way prevent it from burning. This is the tan that many people cultivate.People with low amounts of melanin will have paler skin. The skin will most likely turn red rather than brown and will burn before it tans (if it tans at all) depending on the melanin level. This is fair common knowledge to most people. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer. It may be raised from the skin or flat to begin with. It generally doesn't spread and is considered to be a benign cancer. It can appear anywhere on the body but mainly on areas that are directly exposed to the sunlight.Squamous cell carcinoma is another form of skin cancer that is normally found on parts of the body that are exposed to sunlight. Again, it does not always spread from the original location but is more likely to spread than basal cell. If it does spread it will normally only spread to surrounding cells. So if it is on the surface of the skin you will notice a mark that is brown or red that starts to get larger over time.Melanoma are the third type of skin cancer. They are the most serious and rarest form of skin cancer. They can appear anywhere on the body and are not uncommon in parts of the body that are not normally exposed to the sun, like the feet. This means it will interfere with surrounding tissues and organs to the extent that it destroys them or stops them functioning properly.Depending on where the cancer spreads or metastasizes this can be extremely hard to treat and potentially life threatening.Limiting your exposure to sunlight and other forms of ultraviolet radiation is the best preventative care you can take. Getting your skin checked out from time to time by your doctor is also a good idea. This is especially good advice if you notice any new or unusual moles or spots on your skin.

Prevent Colon Cancer With 5 Easy Ways

Posted by Cancer Care on Friday, October 29, 2010

Research studies are now going on how best to prevent colon cancer as more and more people are diagnosed with this condition today. It is found that colon cancer usually starts in the large intestine, also known as colon, or the rectum. Colon cancer then develops from dead cells that have been accumulated in a lump over a period of time. The risk to getting colon cancer increases if you have a genetic medical background of parents or close relatives who have been diagnosed with colon cancer. Research also showed that that colon cancer is aggravated by unhealthy diets such as ready meals and fast food.Hence, it is vital that you seek the advice of your doctor should you feel the discomfort of colon cancer symptoms. The symptoms to look out for include unhealthy bowel occurrence such as diarrhea, constipation or bowel infection, severe pain in abdomen, blood in the stools, narrow stools, anemia, intestinal obstruction and drastic loss of weight.Prevention is still better than cure. So you really should consider the following 5 ways on how best to prevent colon cancer:
  1. Adopt healthy habits. Colon cancer usually develops over a length of period before it actually shows. Hence you should not wait till you notice the symptoms of colon cancer before starting to adopt healthy habits. Eat healthy meals, exercise and have an adequate amount of sleep. If your diet contains too much high fat and red meats with little fiber, you are definitely at a high risk of developing colon cancer. Fat accumulates on the walls of the intestine and rectum, forming lumps of dead cells. You should therefore adopt a balanced natural diet which includes lots of green vegetables, fruits and water.
  2. Exercise helps by flushing out harmful toxins and waste matter which if left accumulated in your body can cause cancerous growth.
  3. Know your family medical history. It appears that colon cancer is a genetic disease that is hereditary. As such, if you belong to the high risk category due to your family history, then you should take extra precautions by leading a healthy lifestyle.
  4. Stop smoking. Chain smoking increases your chance to developing colon cancer. Inhaling tobacco can easily transfer carcinogen (a cancer agent) to your colon and rectum, thus resulting in colon cancer. Hence, do not hesitate to find ways to quit smoking.
  5. Reduce exposure to radiation. Excessive exposure to radiation has been found to cause colon cancer. Radiation rays are harmful and can render healthy normal cells abnormal. By all means, avoid unnecessary X-rays, CT scans, mammograms so that you can best prevent colon cancer. If you observe that you are experiencing symptoms like skin allergies, weak immune system, poor movement of bowels, bloating, etc, then it may be that you have too much toxins in your body. Consider colon cleansing as a way of detoxification. There are a couple of ways to perform colon cleansing. These include consuming herbs for colon cleansing and colon hydrotherapy.

What Is Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma Skin Cancer?

Posted by Cancer Care

A squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer is a type of skin cancer that usually results from a long term sun damage or exposure to ultra-violet rays to the skin. Squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer spreads gradually and also has the capacity to spread to tissues near the affected area such as the eye. The cancer can also spread to distant parts of the body in case, it is not treated on time. The best and the only way to make sure if a skin growth is cancerous is to go for a biopsy. The process involves removal of a small section of the skin. Thereafter a pathologist analyzes it under the microscope in a medical laboratory.Remember that a biopsy is not a process to remove cancer. It just works towards taking off the tip of the cancer. In some cases the skin tends to heal once the biopsy is done as it grows over the cancer. However, this does not indicate that the cancer is removed completely. Here, the cancer is only covered with a blanket of skin. In case, the cancer is not removed fully, it can get deeper in to the skin and even metastasize to the internal organs of the body resulting in death of a human being.Squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer is known to be one of the most common forms of skin cancer. It is shocking but true that over 25,000 new cases have been reported in a year in the United States alone. The cancer originates from the squamous cells that are most of the portion of the upper layer of the skin. All cases of squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer are not serious. If detected early and treated promptly, one can easily survive this disease. However, if not treated properly, the disease can prove to be very hard to treat and can even result in disfigurement. There are several causes of the origination of squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer. Some of these include the following:
  1. Frequent and long exposure to harmful sun rays. This result in severe skin damage and ultimately develop in to squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer.
  2. The damage to the skin done by sun is the most responsible factor for development of this type of cancer. The face is most exposed to sun and the cancer spreads to the other parts of the body.
  3. Light skinned people have greater risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer.
  4. People who have already developed this cancer are said to develop more.
Chronic exposure to the sun is the main cause of this type of cancer. The tumor invades to body parts such as face, neck, bald scalp, hands, shoulders, arms and back that are more exposed to sun. The lower lip and the rim of the ear are more vulnerable to these cancers.Squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer may also develop due to certain types of injury such as scars, burns, long existing sores, sites exposed to X-rays or some harmful chemicals, such as arsenic of by-products of petroleum. Reduced immunity is also one of the main reasons for the spread of this type of cancer. Detect and treat early to stay away from possible damage and full recovery.

New Approach Prevents Skin Cancer Using Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Posted by Cancer Care on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Every year there are more new cases of skin cancer than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers combined. One in 5 Americans will get skin cancer in their lifetime. 90% of skin cancers are caused by excessive sun exposure, yet fewer than 33 percent of adults, adolescents, and children routinely use sun protection.Cancer prevention and early detection techniques could eliminate up to 100,000 cancer cases and 60,000 US cancer deaths each year. The effects of chronic sun exposure result in superficial sun spots that are visible and also invisible changes that occur under the skin's surface. Ultraviolet photography and photodynamic therapy (PDT) are two recent developments that should help in the early detection and treatment of both types of pre-cancerous skin lesions.Early Detection with UV Photography Ultraviolet (UV) photography offers a very useful screening tool to help the skilled physician detect sun damaged skin that may not be visible upon a routine examination. Visual inspection can only detect changes on the skin's surface, but damage due to sun exposure occurs beneath the outer layer of skin,The UV camera briefly shines ultraviolet light on the face. UV light is able to penetrate 1.5-2.0 millimeters under the visible dead layer of skin and focus on the actual living portion where sun damage originates. The advantage to the doctor and the patient is that this technology allows for much earlier detection of skin problems before they develop into pre-cancers that are visible on the skins surface. After finishing the treatment plan, the doctor should take another UV photo to verify the treatment efficacy. UV photography also helps evaluate other skin conditions including acne, oil balance, hydration, inflammation, growths, fungi, pH, and thin skin due to reduced collagen which makes it an ideal tool to evaluate all problem skin. After the damage to the deeper layers of skin, superficial signs of sun damage may eventually appear on the surface. It is estimated that 10-20% of untreated AKs will develop into squamous cell cancers. If treated early, almost all AKs can be eliminated without becoming skin cancers. If you have AKs, it indicates that you have sustained sun damage and have a higher risk for developing all types of skin cancer - not just squamous cell carcinoma.People may also have up to 10 times as many subclinical (invisible) lesions as visible, surface lesions. Treatment options The most common treatment options for AKs have traditionally involved topical pointment 5-FU (Effudex), laser resurfacing, or chemical peels. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is the treatment of choice for the invisible deeper sun damage as well as the visible pre-cancerous AK lesions. This treatment cleared 100% of the AKs in 2/3 of the patients after one treatment. The second step of PDT is to apply a concentrated light source to activate the chemical reaction which destroys the abnormal cells. Since the solution is absorbed only in the damaged cells, the healthy cells are not affected. This process can cause a mild burning sensation during the treatment. Following the treatment, most patients experience mild swelling, redness, and a peeling of the AK lesions and the surrounding tissue. In addition to eliminating AKs and the subsurface skin damage, PDT has also been effective in improving the appearance of the skin by greatly reducing moderate to severe acne (including cystic acne), reducing color splotches, lessening the fine lines, and decreasing pore size.

Five Kinds of Skin Cancer

Posted by Cancer Care on Monday, October 25, 2010

It's really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of skin cancer. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to spot, the first signs of skin cancer. There are five different kinds of skin cancer. The most common type of skin cancer is Basal cell carcinoma with over a million Americans developing this cancer each year.Seventy five percent of all skin cancers treated are of this variety. This type of skin cancer is believed by physicians to be caused by a person spending too much time in the sun. Which is why this type of skin cancers tends to be found ion the more common places on the body that has sun exposure. This includes the face, scalp, and upper torso.Although they have more than one form basal cell carcinoma often begins like a shiny bump. If you notice something that looks like this go immediately to your health care provider as Squamous cell carcinoma can spread to other parts of your body. The next in line is the most dangerous of the skin cancers. That one is Melanoma and it affects four percent of those who are treated for skin cancers. Although if found early the cure rate is a stunning ninety five percent effective. So if you see changes to a mole or a new mole, especially if you are over thirty, see your health care provider immediately. The remaining one percent if divided between Paget,s disease and Kaposi,s sarcoma. Paget,s occurs because of cancers in the sweat glands of the intestines, genitals or urinary tract and so the cancer shows up in the genital area or around the anus. The sores look a like normal patchy skin, rashes, and can be very itchy or even painful. A biopsy is usually needed to determine if its just a skin condition or its Paget,s. Kaposi,s sarcoma is an AIDS related skin cancer related to herpes.

Skin Cancer and Who is Most at Risk?

Posted by Cancer Care on Friday, October 22, 2010

If you have read a newspaper or listened to the news over the last few years, then you will know that there are always constant warnings telling us to protect our skin against skin cancer. Whilst many people do listen to these warnings, there are still a shocking amount of people who still ignore them.
Skin Cancer and its Various Forms
Skin cancer is not as rare as some people think that it is. Whilst it is true that staying in the sun unprotected for a little amount of time, rarely leads to skin cancer, it still can occur. There are different forms of skin cancer, though some are extremely rare. The three most common types of skin cancer include:
Melanoma

This is less common than the other two types of skin cancer, though it can be a lot more serious. It develops from the melanocytes in the skin and is usually seen as a pigmented lesion with an irregular shape in the skin. If treated early, the good news is that this type of cancer has a very high cure rate, so get to the doctors as soon as possible for your best chance of recovery!
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Often occurring in the hands, lower lip, and the forehead, this type of cancer appears as a red bump or an ulceration of the skin which does not heal. The cancer if left untreated can spread to lymph nodes within the affected area.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Usually the cancer is found on areas of the body which have had excessive sun exposure. This type of skin cancer does not usually spread to other parts of the body, and will only spread to the skin around the actual cancer.
Overall, Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common skin cancer but it is not the most serious. Usually people with fair skin are more at risk than others of contracting the cancer, especially people with freckles. Obviously, the longer you expose your skin to the sun without sufficient protection, the more at risk you are of developing skin cancer.
How to Prevent Yourself from Getting Skin Cancer and the Treatments Available
It is really easy to protect yourself against skin cancer, so really there is no excuse for not preventing it. Using an adequate amount of sun protection lotion is a must, and unfortunately many people simply do not bother with it. Generally, children and people with fair skin need to be using a higher protection factor than other people. People with darker skin do not tend to get skin cancer as often as people with lighter skin so they do not need a high factor sun lotion.
Sunbeds are also a cause of skin cancer, though cases are rare. Applying lotion to the ears, nose and neck will help to protect those sensitive areas from the sun.If caught early, most skin cancer can be cured. There are various forms of treatment for skin cancer including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The treatment which you will receive depends upon your age, health and the size of the cancer.
