Radiotherapy was administered as adjuvant treatment of breast cancer with or without concomitant chemotherapy. Radiotherapy was to irradiate the body parts with high-energy rays. These high-energy rays damage DNA in rapidly dividing cells like cancer cells.
During radiotherapy for breast cancer, the site is marked and a port of radiation on the site. A port of the radiation is simply a device that can provide radiation directed tissue in question. Most women required 2.3 cycles of radiotherapy for breast cancer. But it may be more or less depending on the stage of tumor.
There are some basic precautions and attention must be given on the site of radiotherapy. This article describes the precautions and advice before and after radiotherapy -
1. Gently wash the area irradiated daily with either water alone or a mild soap and water.
2. Use your hands instead of a wash cloth to soften.
3. Rinse the soap out of your skin.
4. Do not remove the skin marks indicating exactly where the radiation beam must be centered.
5. Playing movements irradiated dry instead of rubbing with a damp cloth or a clean cloth.
6. Do not use powders, ointments, lotions or creams in the irradiated area, unless they are prescribed by the therapist.
7. Use a soft cloth and on the website of the skin site of radiation.
8. Avoid the use of belts, buckles, straps or any clothing that binds or rubs the skin to radiation.
9. Avoid Sun on the irradiated area.
10. Avoid exposure to heat.
